FAQ about vintage knitwear
Wear it buttoned up as a top, tucked into a high-waisted skirt or wide trousers, or leave it open over a blouse. Vera, Ingrid and Joanne all work both ways, and look great with a pair of oxfords or T-bar shoes.
Most of our knitwear is knitted in merino wool, which is soft, warm and breathable. Some styles are made in cotton or mohair, like Lisbeth and Kirsten. All our knitwear is produced in the EU.
Always follow the care label. As a rule, wash by hand or on a wool cycle at a low temperature with a wool detergent. Do not wring the garment, and dry it flat to keep its shape.
A cardigan opens at the front with buttons, while a jumper is pulled over the head. A bolero is a short, cropped cardigan that ends above the waist, designed to wear over dresses. Carol is our bolero, and Evelyn, Sally and Iris are short-sleeved jumpers in the 1940s and 1950s style.
Yes. Every style is designed from original knitting patterns from the 1920s to the 1950s, with the shapes, stitches and details of the era kept true to the originals.
The story of vintage knitwear
From the open-front knit jackets of the 1920s to the fitted cardigans of the 1940s, knitwear became a staple in every woman's wardrobe. During the war, many women knitted their own cardigans and short-sleeved jumpers from published patterns. In the 1950s, knitwear became softer and more glamorous, with boleros, cap sleeves and fine lace knits.
Our knitwear is designed from original patterns from these decades. Fitted waists, short sleeves, cable details and small collars are kept true to the originals, so each piece works with high-waisted skirts and trousers as well as modern jeans.
Most styles are knitted in merino wool, with some in cotton and mohair. Everything is produced in the EU.
Merino wool is soft against the skin, keeps you warm without overheating and needs less washing than most fibres.
